SAPAA - Stewards of Alberta's Protected Areas Association
“Definition of a steward: ”person who undertakes the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to their care….”

About Us

“Stewards of Alberta’s Protected Areas Association (SAPAA) is a non-profit society whose purpose is to support stewards of Alberta’s protected areas. The Society was formed in 2000 to assist stewards enrolled under the government’s Volunteer Stewards Program (1987) serving the Alberta government’s protected areas network (Provincial and Wildland Parks, Wilderness Areas, Ecological Reserves, Natural Areas and Provincial Recreation Areas).

More recently the Society is inviting anyone interested in stewardship, formal or informal, of any of Alberta’s protected areas, nature reserves and conservation areas to join us in our mission. Through stewardship we aim to maintain or enhance the ecological integrity of protected areas, and to promote and communicate about them, for the benefit of present and future generations.“

Hello Anthony, the area surrounding Kimiwan Lake is a PNT. This means it is noted for administrative purposes but does not have legal protection. The Kimiwan Lake Naturalist society is on our organizational stewards mailing list as well.

Let me know if this answers your question.
