Open Creek Natural Area


A quarter-section (64 ha) in size, the site is predominantly tamarack-black spruce patterned muskeg, with some upland poplar and pine forest. Open Creek runs across its northern portion.

Other Information

The vegetation of this site consists mainly of tamarack-black spruce patterned muskeg with some upland poplar and pine forest. It lies in the Boreal Forest Natural Region, Dry Mixedwood Subregion. (Alberta Parks website, 2012).

The site is a few km north of Welch Creek Natural Area making this a potential ‘two-sites-in-one’ day trip from Red Deer. The Rimbey Fish & Game Association runs a nearby campground, Open Creek Campground.
