Ministers Report – 2025

SAPAA has completed its third annual Minister’s Report of the state of Alberta’s WAERNAHR protected areas. Although 84% rated sites as in good condition, 16% suffered degradation from various activities. SAPAA seeks official government recognition and letters of support for funding grants to enhance its work, which aligns with provincial policies. Optimism remains for collaboration.

Reclaiming 40 Years of Stewardship

The post discusses the Historical Site Inspection Reports (SIR) and the process for individuals to reclaim their redacted submissions. Putting a Price on 40 Years of Stewardship

The Government of Alberta’s site inspection data spans 40 years, revealing a decline in annual reports from 120 in the ’90s to 30 more recently. Approximately 25,000 volunteer hours contributed to this data, which the SAPAA aims to improve for better conservation outcomes. Government Stewards can reclaim their inspection reports.

Miistakis Report – January 30 Debrief

The Alberta Government commissioned the Miistakis Institute to evaluate the Volunteer Steward Program, resulting in the ‘Miistakis Report’. SAPAA is hosting a private debriefing for members and guests to discuss the findings. Registration is needed for the meeting link, but not for report access.
